PlantwisePlus has collaborated with in-country experts to write practical crop protection information, aimed at plant doctors, extension workers and farmers. For quick, free and easy access to this information wherever you are, download the PlantwisePlus Factsheet Library app and get offline access on your mobile device.

The app is available for free on Android and iOS.

Factsheet Types

There are two types of factsheets you can access through the PlantwisePlus Factsheet Library, Pest Management Decision Guides (PMDGs) and Factsheets for Farmers (FFFs)

Pest Management Decision Guides

These are factsheets that provide guidance on the prevention, monitoring and management of problems in crops. Problems covered include diseases, insect pests, deficiencies and other physical problems. There are two types of PMDG – ‘Green Lists’ and ‘Green and Yellow Lists’. The green sections provide information on prevention, monitoring and physical or biological controls. The yellow sections provide information on chemical controls and their restrictions for safe use.

Green Lists are produced by PlantwisePlus and include prevention, monitoring and control options that are relevant for any country. They do not include controls such as pesticides which have local restrictions.

Green and Yellow Lists are written by experts in PlantwisePlus countries and include information that is specific to the country, including pesticide recommendations.

Factsheets for Farmers

These are factsheets with practical information on crop production and pest management methods. They usually give more in-depth information about a specific method, ranging from conserving pollinators, to preparation of a nursery bed to preparation of Neem extract to control whiteflies. They are written by partners in PlantwisePlus countries for use by farmers and by plant doctors and extension workers who provide advice to farmers.

How it works

To use the Factsheet Library App, from the home screen tap ‘Add a new country pack’ and download the country pack for your country*. If you have limited space on your phone, you have the option to download a smaller country pack, which doesn’t contain images.

A country pack may contain content in multiple languages. If you want to just view content in your language, once you have downloaded the country pack you can tap on ‘Select languages’. Then select or deselect the languages you want to appear.

You do not need an internet connection to access the content once you have downloaded your country pack. However, if you have downloaded the smaller country pack, you will only be able to see images in the factsheets when connected to the internet. Additionally, an occasional internet connection is needed to receive any updates to the content, . When you are connected to the internet, click the refresh button at the top to manually update. Or tick ‘allow automatic updating for all active packs’ to make sure your content automatically stays up to date.

To browse the content, click on ‘browse by crop’ or ‘browse by problem’ from the home page. This will bring up a list of all the crops or problems included in your country pack download. Then find the crop or problem you are interested in and tap it to bring up all the content in your downloaded country pack on your topic of interest.

*Country packs are available for Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Grenada, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Peru, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia.
