Whenever I am working in Democratic Republic of Congo, I always link up with our partner ESCO, a regional cacao producer and exporter, also active in Uganda. They are extremely focused on helping the farmers achieve good quality organic cocoa, as this will get them a better selling price. They have many depots around North Kivu Province, and I am always happy to visit their stores and watch for any impending diseases, particularly during the rainy season, when many different types of fungi can affect drying beans and the trees they grow on. In this picture, I am in a depot with the local ESCO area agronomist, Francois.
